Mr. Satish MV has obtained B.Sc (PCM) and M.Sc. in Library and Information Science from Kuvempu University, Shimoga and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) from Annamalai University. In addition to that he has undergone the post master degree training programs in library and information science at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has also qualified National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) conducted across India. The NET is conducted by the University Grants Commission, Government of India to select candidates for the position of Assistant Professorship, and also to identify candidates eligible for doctoral programs in prestigious Indian universities.
Before assuming a position at Govt. Engineering College – Hassan, he has worked for the IBM India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore (2008-2010) as System Operations Specialist and Project Assistant at National Centre for Science Information (NCSI), located in the world renowned Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Where he had a great opportunity to learn and obtain hands-on experience with many open source tools, such as ePrints, Dspace, Drupal, Zoomla, WordPress, Moodle, Open Journal System, Open Harvester and Koha. In addition to that he has also exposed for learning in many Linux based servers, especially fedora 5-12 versions, Redhat Linux, Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian etc. during his stay at NCSI he had served as a resource person for few national workshops, especially in implementing institutional repositories.
Along with his academics, he had the pleasure of working with a group of like-minded colleagues interested in promoting the use of open access and support organizations in academic publishing and in identifying new means of establishing their institutional repositories in India. In 2007, they have registered a society called Open Knowledge Society (OKS), and were successful initially. However, OKS is currently inactive due to economic constraints and the paucity of skilled personnel.
